When John, a leading figure in his SACCO, initially encountered Kwara, he was skeptical. Not because of the platform’s capabilities, but because of an existing relationship with KUSCCO, widely regarded as the mother of all SACCOs in Kenya. “We didn’t take Kwara because we didn’t want to sever the relationship with KUSCCO,” he confesses. Before Kwara, John’s SACCO had a conspicuous gap: the lack of a mobile banking channel. “We didn’t have the convenience of mobile banking channels back then, but now we can offer these valuable services to our members through Kwara.,” John states. The impact was immediate and staggering, particularly among the youth. “The majority of our youth are now in our SACCO,” he exclaims. This development was so monumental that his SACCO bagged an award for it. “We have even bagged an award for getting more youth in that short period, which thanks we would give back to Kwara.”

A Masterstroke for Growth
“For SACCOs, it is a masterstroke,” Ian, the Operations Manager of RAA Elites SACCO declares. The integration with KUSCCO’s existing product lineup made it simpler for other SACCOs to get on board with Kwara. “Now it’s easier for SACCOs to onboard to Kwara,” he observes. The SACCO has seen interest from far and wide, including members from the diaspora. “We have also attracted members from the diaspora through the Kwara system.”
